Mito-Women Study

We are recruiting women aged 25 to 35 years to participate in a study which is designed to evaluate if the function of mitochondria (small parts of the cell that create power, i.e., the cell’s powerhouses) in circulating blood cells reflects or is similar to the function of mitochondria in muscle tissue. For this, we will be collecting one blood sample and a muscle biopsy. You will be reimbursed for your time and travel for your visit. Parking is available to participants free of charge, as well.

The biopsy is performed at UAMS by a Medical Doctor. A small piece of muscle tissue will be collected from the muscle on your thigh, using standard procedures including numbing medicine.

All research studies require potential participants to be screened. This is simple and is conducted over the phone in about 5-10 minutes to learn more about your health and other pertinent information that relates to the study.

If you are interested or would like to find out if you are eligible, you can give us a call at (501) 364-3309.
