Prenatal Probiotics

The Prenatal Probiotics Study

The purpose of the Prenatal Probiotics study is to determine how the mother’s health and probiotic supplementation during pregnancy may influence her child’s growth and development. We are looking for women less than 12 weeks pregnant, 18 years of age or older, with a BMI over 30. For this study, moms are randomized into two groups. Randomized means that you are put into a group by chance, like flipping a coin. One group will take one supplement pill make of no active ingredients daily during the entire pregnancy. The other group will take one supplement pill daily made of probiotics which are live cultures like the ones present in yogurt.

Women in both groups will attend up to eight visits during pregnancy and one study visit for baby at age 2 weeks. During two of the pregnancy visits we will collect blood samples and perform glucose testing. Monetary and diaper compensation up to $250 and a 6 month supply of diapers will be provided for your time.
